Spay & Neuter Near Me

Choosing to spay or neuter your pet is one of the most important decisions you’ll make for their health, and it’s a decision you should be able to plan for with confidence. At MVS Animal Clinic in Deerfield Beach, Dr. Deborah Niedermiller, has been caring for pets across Broward County for decades. We perform spay and neuter surgery in our own surgical suite, with a clear estimate before surgery and personal support from the first exam through a full recovery.

Why Spay or Neuter Your Pet?

Spaying (removing the ovaries and usually the uterus in female pets) and neutering (removing the testicles in male pets) do more than prevent unplanned litters. For many pets, these procedures also bring real health and behavior benefits:

  • Lower risk of certain diseases. Spaying prevents pyometra, a serious uterine infection, and greatly reduces the risk of mammary tumors, especially when done early. Neutering eliminates the risk of testicular cancer.
  • Fewer hormone-driven behaviors. Neutered pets are often less likely to roam, mark their territory or fight with other animals. Spayed pets don’t go into heat.
  • Fewer homeless pets. Every spay and neuter helps reduce the number of unwanted puppies and kittens in shelters across South Florida.

When to Spay or Neuter

There’s no single right age for every pet. Many cats are spayed or neutered at around five to six months old. For dogs, the best timing can depend on size and breed: some large and giant breeds may benefit from waiting until they’re more fully grown.

Dr. Niedermiller will look at your pet’s age, breed, health and lifestyle and recommend the right time for them. Adult and senior pets can often be spayed or neutered safely too; depending on overall health.

Pricing & Estimates

We believe you should know what to expect before your pet’s surgery, and we’re always happy to talk about cost. The price of a spay or neuter depends on a few things:

  • The procedure. Spays are generally more involved than neuters.
  • Your pet’s size and species. Cats, small dogs and large dogs each require different amounts of anesthesia, medication and surgical time.
  • Your pet’s age and health. Older pets or pets with health conditions may need extra screening before surgery.
  • Special circumstances. Surgery can be more involved if your pet is in heat, pregnant, overweight, or has a retained testicle (a testicle that didn’t descend normally).

After examining your pet, we’ll give you a clear estimate before scheduling, so there are no surprises. Call us at (954) 425-0013 and we’ll walk you through pricing for your pet.

Recovery & Post-Op Care

Pets go home the same day and are back to their usual selves within 7-10 days. We’ll send you home with clear instructions, and our team is only a phone call away if you have questions. In general, during recovery after surgery:

  • Keep your pet calm and quiet. Avoid running, jumping, rough play and stairs where you can.
  • Protect the incision. Keep the recovery cone on so your pet can’t lick or chew the stitches.
  • Keep the incision dry. No baths or swimming
  • Check the incision daily. A little redness is normal in the first few days.

Call us at (954) 425-0013 if you notice swelling, discharge or bleeding from the incision, or if your pet is lethargic, vomiting or won’t eat for more than a day.

Setting Your Pet Up for a Healthy Future

Spaying and neutering is a great time to make sure the rest of your pet’s preventive care is on track. Before surgery, we’ll check that your pet’s vaccines are up to date. Dr. Niedermiller tailors every pet’s vaccine protocol to their lifestyle and risk factors, rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. After your pet has healed, regular wellness exams every six months, or at least once a year, help us catch health problems early and keep your pet feeling their best for years to come.

Many cats are done around five to six months old. For dogs, the right age depends on size and breed. Dr. Niedermiller will recommend the best timing for your pet.

Not always. Dr. Niedermiller recommends pre-anesthetic bloodwork based on your pet’s age, health and history. You can always choose to add it, even when it isn’t required.

Most pets recover in 10 to 14 days. Keep your pet quiet, keep the recovery cone on and keep the incision dry until it has healed.

Pets go home the same day.
